Sport and free time

A lot of possibility to make EXCURSIONS BY FEET or  MOUNTAIN BIKE up and down the footpaths of Tignale. We recommend these, but there are many of these footpaths:

Footpath nr.260/266 - OLDESIO - PRA DELLA FAM = HARBOUR OF TIGNALE

From the car park in Oldesio, follow the main road in the direction of Gargnano for about 100 metres, just before the road curves, take the footpath that goes off to the left down to the Harbour of Tignale, also known as "Prato della Fame" (literally "meadow of hunger"), or "Pra della Fam" in the local dialect. This footpath was originally a mule track used for connecting the plateau of Tignale with the lake. The route takes about 30 minutes and goes around a hillock surrounded by olive groves with a wonderful view of the lake and the mountains beyond. The path then descends down the precipitous face of the rocks that seem to overhang the main road along the lake, the Gardesana, and carries on until it comes out near a lemon house (limonaia) run by a local mountain autorithy (the Comunità Montana Parco Alto Garda). The lemon house is open to the public three times a week. The excursion is recommended for the wonderful panoramic views, and for the botanical interest of the heat-retaining rock-face. The last part of the walk whilst not being particularly difficult is not recommended for those suffering from vertigo. Suitable only for walkers (good walking shoes essential) Return: one hour

Footpath nr.266 1st. part - GARDOLA - SANCTUARY OF MONTE CASTELLO

Take the road from Gardola to Prabione for about a kilometre, until you arrive at the road on your right, that leads to the Sanctuary of Monte Castello. You can also get there form Olzano, an attractive hamlet of Tignale, situated just above Gardola. The climb up to the Sanctuary and Mount Cas is fairly steep and has the Stations of the Cross in small niches along its route. The Sanctuary was built int the sixteenth century and has wonderful views of the lake and Monte Baldo (40 mins). After visiting the church pass under the portico that runs alongside the modern building which acts as a retreat house (l' Eremo). Then follow the mule track that begins here and which goes to the top of the mountain, in some parts dug into the rock and with numerous caves and tunnels, the remains of fortifications carried out in the first World War with the alm of controlling area of the lake and the nearby border area. Follow the mule track climbs steeply and with spectacular views until you reach the summit of Mount Cas, which is marked with a large metal cross. (20 mins.-1 hr.) From here you carry on along the ridge that, on the eastern face, falls perpendicularly directly down to the lake, a 700 metres drop. Arriving at a final open space with another breathtaking view, continue for another hundred metres in a northerly direction, after which you leave the dirt track to take the stepped footpath that descends diagonally along the ridge until you arrive at the building that was the plant nursery of the organisation which manages the forests (ERSAF) and then the Visitors Centre of the regional park (Parco Alto Garda Bresciano) on the outskirts of Prabione. (30 mins.- 1hr.30 mins.) Suitable only for walkers, apart from the first part until the Sanctuary, which is all normal road.
